Budget 2018 Summary

Posted on: November 15th, 2017 by Louise Lennon

Budget 2018 was an opportunity for the Government to begin making real investment in services in rural areas. Although most Government Departments saw an increase in their budget for 2018 and Irish Rural Link welcomes these increases, they are quite modest and will not make any real impact on improvements to people’s lives or to public services, especially in rural areas. Budget 2018, does little to close the gap on the rate of growth between rural and urban areas and few measures to ensure that areas outside of Dublin to compete for jobs in the short term were introduced. IRL remain concerned that the continued slow rate of growth in rural areas will continue to worsen migration and rural isolation issues.
