What is Sparkasse!

Below is link to a short video explaining how German Sparkasse model of banking works. Irish Rural Link have been working with Sparkasse Germany for over two years on how this model of Local Public Banking could work in Ireland and have made proposals to Government to pilot this model in the Midlands region of the country

Irish Rural Link presented to the Oireachtas Finance Committee along with SBFIC Germany on the 12th October 2017 on a Local Public Banking Model in Ireland. The model proposed is similar to the German Sparkassen Model.

The impact of the recession and austerity budgets that followed is still being felt in many rural areas and have not seen the same level of economic growth or employment as more urban areas have over the past couple of years.┬áSmall and Medium sized companies are the backbone of rural areas and are a key employer. However, since the financial crash, a lack of credit circulating was the main factor affecting communities as SMEs in particular tried to survive the economic downturn.
